During National Small Business Week, SBA is on a national bus tour. SBA Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman will visit nine cities across the country and, in partnership with the SBA’s local offices, join local elected officials to celebrate America’s 32.5 million small businesses, who have played an integral role in advancing the historic strong economic comebacks of our nation.

“I’m thrilled to recognize our National Small Business Week winners from across the country who have worked over the past year to build their businesses, create jobs and foster a historic recovery,” said Administrator Guzman. “Entrepreneurs, at their core, are innovators and creators who deliver the products and services we depend on and make our neighborhoods, cities and communities more vibrant places to live and work. They are doing everything they can to achieve their American dream of entrepreneurship, thereby advancing America’s economy and global competitiveness.

“Our 2022 honorees represent the vibrancy and resilience of our nation’s 32.5 million small businesses, and I look forward to celebrating these small business giants and the positive impact they are making on life and livelihoods in communities across America had.”

“Over the past two years, small business owners have had to innovate and find new ways to serve their customers, support their employees and support their communities,” said SBA Portland District Director Martin Golden. “Entrepreneurs like Kevin and Angie represent the thousands of small business owners who work every day to build better lives for their families and employees and are a source of strength for their communities.”

With the ever-growing demand for counseling services across Oregon, Brightways needed a strong presence where it could best serve the needs of its community, which necessitated an expansion of its physical locations. This required both expertise and capital to make it a reality.

With the help of the SBA funding programs, the company was able to access the capital needed to purchase and transform two of its locations where it could effectively reach rural and underserved communities.

“This award is a great honor for all of our hard work over the past several years building our vision to help meet the needs of our community,” said Kevin and Angie Shaw. “We are overwhelmed by the gratitude for the help SBA has been able to offer our company in the purchase of two office buildings in central Oregon. We also want to thank our employees and the amazing community partners who have joined us in our mission.”
